淡路屋

The general image of Kobe is it’s exotic, has good western-style confections, and is stylish. But the real Kobe has more to it!!
Wadamisaki in Hyogo Ward, Kobe City is a central industrial area where Mitsubishi group occupies a major part of it.
Awajiya is located in this industrial area on the south side of Kasamatsu shopping district.
This candy shop in the old town is also an eatery that serves crepe which is popular among many people who visit the shop.

淡路屋

Ms. Yuki, who is called ne-chan (term used to address a young woman) by the kids who come, is the one running the shop. Her grandmother is the one who started this business, taken over by Ms. Yuki’s mother and this is the third generation all run by women.
The most popular on the menu is Yuki’s homemade crepe.
You can choose between the regular type and the longer-cooked crispy type. You can also choose what to put in your crepe. The popular ones are cream and chocolate, but many go for the savory ones too.
You must try the drink called Apple (no product label!) with your crepe.

淡路屋

Kobe style takoyaki (ball-shaped snack including diced octopus) eaten with both sauce and broth is also popular. This is only available in and around Hyogo Ward in Kobe City, so you must try it!

淡路屋

They also have Tokuren Orange Jelly, a popular desert served at school cafeteria in Kobe City.

淡路屋

It is served frozen, so you can wait awhile for an extra cold jelly!
Or, you can eat it frozen if you want sherbert.

淡路屋

This Awajiya was introduced in the popular NHK program Document 72.
Many children going in and out of the candy shop were featured and the film was put together with a warm touch. It was very impressive and well worth watching the program.

There is a rerun of the program tonight, and I strongly recommend you watch it.
You can even record the program.
